Sofia Cherici

Sofia Cherici is an Italian investigative journalist currently based in Istanbul.

As a freelancer, her work has been published in various Italian newspapers and international outlets such as La Repubblica, IrpiMedia, Are We Europe, Transitions, and Earth Island Journal.

Sofia is a Climate Arena fellow and a member of several cross-border investigative teams supported by IJ4EU, the Journalism Fund Europe, and others. She specializes in multimedia longform and narrative reportage, combining extensive fieldwork with data and OSINT tools.

Her current focus is on uncovering stories related to corrupt schemes and shady businesses, environmental and social damages, as well as reporting on the intricacies of modern societies in complex lands.

Before starting her journalism career, she graduated from Sciences Po Paris and worked in the humanitarian and development sectors in Libya, Tunisia, and Turkey.
