Sharing the Hate

Bucharest - Fidesz, the populist party governing Hungary, and AUR, a far-right party from Romania with a visibly growing follower base have more in common than one would expect.

Apart from their antagonistic relationship on the subject of Hungarians living in the Western part of Romania, the two parties use the same disinformation narratives aligned with the Kremlin propaganda.

Our team spent 7 months monitoring the public communication of the two political actors, and identified at least five common disinformation narratives. Four of these narratives deal with the war in Ukraine and its consequences.

The narratives aim to question the credibility of Ukraine, and also challenge the help of the European Union and NATO. These narratives are added to an array of tried and tested repertoire of communication panels that fuel the frustration of the population towards Bruxelles.
